Creative Forming Adds New Thermoformer to Facility |
Ripon, Wisconsin, June 30, 2005 - Creative Forming, Inc. recently made a significant investment in a new state-of-the-art thermoformer which will allow the company to form larger and deeper packaging items as well as accommodating plastic sheet up to 50 inches wide.
The new unit — Thermoforming Systems Model 5.0 — came to Creative Forming from Yakima, Wash., on three semi trailers and required a crane to unload.
The thermoformer, Creative Forming’s newest thermoform press is by far the largest in size and efficiency of all machines in the facility.
“The new thermofomer will produce more output with less labor, allowing us to reduce costs,” said Tam Joines, Manager of Manufacturing Engineering at Creative Forming. “It also has new technology and runs more efficiently with better process control.”
The machine is about 25 to 30 percent larger and more technologically advanced than a unit the firm installed in June 2003.
“The machine has all servo drives, has better oven technology, better recipe control,” said Joines. “Overall, it is a more structurally sound machine and can hold forming conditions better than other machines.” It is hoped the larger thermoformer will open new markets to the Ripon firm. “We expect it to give us a fair amount of growth over the next several years,” said Joines.
The machine is able to produce larger products as well as more in volume. “We are able to get businesses that demand higher volumes of products, and we can run new and different products on the machine than we could do before,” said Joines. The company expects to replace two or three more of its current thermoformers with new units — although none as large as the recent addition. “We have ordered a new machine for the fall ’05 and it should go into place in November,” said Joines.
The next new machine, the Kiefel KMD 85, is not as large as the Model 5.0 machine but is capable of producing products at a very high speed. “The KMD can produce up to 70-80 cycles a minute compared to some machines that can only do 10-20 maximum,” said Joines. With the new machine's technology, Creative Forming will be able to produce at a higher capacity, be more efficient as well as cost effective.
