Creative Forming Sweeps Awards At 2005 SPE Parts Competition |
Ripon, Wisconsin, November 2005 - Creative Forming Inc. took first place in the Consumer Packaging and House Wares Divisions at the 15th Annual SPE Parts Competition and Showcase, held in Milwaukee, WI. The company submitted a thermoformed outer package designed to hold an air freshener product manufactured by Procter & Gamble.
A panel of six industry professionals from both cut sheet and roll-fed industries, judged the competition. Creative Forming’s design was awarded 1st place based on the following criteria:

- Surface Finish
- Distinct Quality
- Market Viability
- Originality
- Material Difficulty
- Mold Complexity
- Secondary Operations
Procter & Gamble approached Creative Forming with a need for a versatile piece that allowed for maximum flexibility. The winning design consisted of a lid and base combination made to contain and display a retail air freshening device, an air freshening disk, AC adaptor and literature. The packaging also retains and protects the contents during shipping as well as providing a smooth surface and angular display of the device, its front controls and the disk.
“For this particular project our team’s primary focus was to retain and optimize product presentation,” stated Dave Schoff, Engineer. Tooling and manufacturing concentrated their efforts on creating and running large, multi-cavity molds and matched metal dies, cooling, maintaining cavity to cavity repeatability, minimization of chill marks and optimization of wall thickness in critical areas.
