Mixim® Packaging System Case Study
Sambrailo Packaging is one the country’s foremost suppliers of packaging options for agricultural commodities. The company has always been guided by a simple principle, “whatever is best for the produce.” This principle has revolutionized the way produce is packaged and shipped.

The Mixim clamshell is a perfect example of doing “whatever is best for the produce.”
In this instance, it meant collaborating with thermoforming experts Creative Forming to produce a clamshell that:
- Offers greater product appeal and visibility
- Better protects its contents from damage and bruising
- Incorporates the Sambrailo bottom arch design
- Improves product shelf life
- Provides better ventilation
- Is conducive to faster cooling and stays cool longer
A challenge by any standard, but one which Creative approached confidently. Working closely with Sambrailo’s New Product Development Department, the design team at Creative helped develop a clamshell with the following design features:
Ribless
- immediately improved product appeal and increased visibility
- reduced bruising and damage caused by the ribs
- produce is better protected even in transit—better arrivals, longer shelf life
Bi-directional vents (Mixim Plus 5-down System)
- vents around the sides, in addition to the base and top, for optimal ventilation
- aids in the rapid cooling process so products stay fresher longer
Contour trimmed
- to achieve the Sambrailo bottom arch
- improves stackability
- 20 percent more produce per pallet load—save on shipping and pallet costs (Mixim 9-down system)
- works with Sambrailo’s modular paperboard container system
- fits onto pallets more efficiently, resulting in substantial freight savings (Mixim 9-down system)
The redesigned Mixim clamshell has gone further than doing whatever is best for the produce. It’s helping growers, shippers and consumers alike get the most value for their needs.
